Pickup Truck

Pickup trucks are versatile, reliable, and useful. That’s why they can make the claim of being the topselling vehicle in America.

18% of all vehicles sold in the US are pickup trucks

Almost 1 out of every 5 vehicle purchases in the US is a truck. In Europe, trucks make up only 1% of all vehicles sold. Only 15% of truck owners use their pickup trucks for work. Pickup trucks can haul and carry thousands of pounds.

But most owners don’t use their trucks for that sort of heavy lifting. Only 15% of truck owners report using their pickup trucks for work.

Some Facts

In crashes involving lighter pickups, the driver fatality rate is 23% higher than crashes involving cars of the same weight. Death rates in full-sized pickup trucks are much lower than in light pickup trucks. Based on all these statistics, light pickup trucks seem to be more dangerous than full-sized versions.

Pickup trucks are three times more likely to be involved in a rollover than any other type of car, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety  administration.

Pickup trucks are 224% more likely to kill someone in a crash than other vehicles. Many people drive older trucks, which were built to last, however, these trucks often don’t have many of today’s safety features which means that bodily injury and death is also more
likely.

However, newer models often have the same safety features as cars, if not more. In fact, some governments are holding pickup trucks to a higher standard than cars, as they are more likely to cause fatalities.
