Step Van

Step vans, also referred to as walk-in delivery trucks, refer to the panel trucks that can be driven with the driver standing or sitting. These vehicles were originally used to deliver food, particularly milk and bakery products in the early 20th century.

Common Uses

Step vans are now commonly used construction trades such as plumbing, heating and air conditioner contractors, auto repair, and law enforcement.

The step van also became popular as a food truck because of certain features that made it attractive to food catering companies and also other industries as well.

Appealing Features

Those appealing features include:

• Appealing look
• Spacious with high ceiling height
• Allows food servers to reach customers from the window
• The ability to travel to festivals, outings, tours, and events

Using a step van can be a great asset for your business, but if buying a new truck is too costly, or out of your budget, consider a used, more affordable unit.

Other Uses

More federal, state and local agencies use the step van for various SWAT operations and police mobile command centers. Agencies responding to natural disasters and fire departments routinely use step vans to store equipment and serve as a mobile headquarters
in the field.

Many companies provide conversion services to provide custom-built step vans. The most complicated, conversions are refrigeration and freezer compartments built for food delivery vans and ice cream trucks. Some specialized vans are ordered equipped with mobile kitchens including stoves, ovens, deep fryers, grills, ventilation systems.
