Tow Truck

A tow truck is a truck that is used to move a vehicle that is being impounded, wrongly parked, disabled, or indisposed in any way. The truck may need to be brought in when a law is or has being broken, an accident has occurred, or when it’s infrastructure has been severely damaged.

Some History

Tow trucks were first invented in 1916 in when a car was pulled out of a creek by six men using ropes in Tennessee. Today, adjustable booms are used to recover vehicles from ditches, lakes and similar situations. Initially there was only one type of a tow truck, known as the traditional tow truck. As the car manufacturers evolved, so did the tow truck.

The Tow Truck Museum is located in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The International Towing and Recovery Hall of Fame and Museum displays restored antique wreckers, tools, equipment, and pictorial histories of the towing industry.

Today, there are currently 5 types of tow trucks:

  1. The Hook & Chain
  2. The Boom
  3. The Wheel Lift
  4. The Flatbed
  5. The Integrated
